From Closets to Change: The EcoThreads Journey

EcoThreads began with a pile of old school uniforms lying forgotten in a closet. What started as a simple curiosity grew into a movement to reduce textile waste and empower underserved women.

After surveying over 200 parents and students, I realized I wasn't alone—many families didn’t know what to do with outgrown but usable uniforms. That’s when I knew something had to be done.

What followed was months of research, school visits, vendor outreach, and pilot testing. Today, EcoThreads collects and upcycles school uniforms into eco-friendly products — bags, pouches, aprons, and more — while supporting the daily wages of women artisans through partnerships with organizations like Goonj and NEEV at IIT Gandhinagar.

Reducing textile waste. Empowering women. One school uniform at a time.
